The 24-Hour Interview Preparation System

Getting an interview on short notice is stressful, but it doesn't mean you have to walk in unprepared. With a focused 24-hour preparation system, you can walk into any interview with confidence.

Hour 1–2: Research the Company

The company itself: What does the company do? What's their business model? Who are their customers? What's their competitive position? Read the "About" page, recent press releases, and their LinkedIn company page.

Recent news: Google "[Company name] news" filtered to the past 6 months. Know about recent product launches, funding rounds, acquisitions, or leadership changes.

The interviewer: If you know who's interviewing you, look them up on LinkedIn. Note their background, how long they've been at the company, and any shared connections or interests.

The role: Re-read the job description carefully. Identify the 3–5 most important requirements and prepare specific examples for each.

Hour 3–4: Prepare Your Stories

Behavioural interviews follow the STAR format: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Prepare 5–7 strong stories from your career that you can adapt to different questions.

The stories you need:

  • Your biggest professional achievement (with numbers)
  • A time you failed and what you learned
  • A time you handled conflict with a colleague or manager
  • A time you led a project or initiative
  • A time you had to learn something new quickly
  • A time you went above and beyond your job description
  • A time you had to make a difficult decision with incomplete information

Hour 5–6: Prepare for Common Questions

"Tell me about yourself." Structure: current role, key achievements, why you're here. Don't recite your resume — tell a narrative.

"Why do you want to work here?" Reference specific things you learned in your research.

"What's your greatest weakness?" Choose a real weakness you're actively working to improve.

"Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" Align your answer with the company's trajectory.

"Why are you leaving your current role?" Keep it positive. Focus on what you're moving toward, not what you're running from.

Hour 7–8: Prepare Your Questions

Asking good questions is as important as answering them well. Prepare 5–7 questions and plan to ask 3–4:

  • "What does success look like in this role in the first 90 days?"
  • "What are the biggest challenges the team is currently facing?"
  • "How would you describe the team culture?"
  • "What do you enjoy most about working here?"
  • "What's the timeline for the hiring decision?"
